“Hard-won gains in scientific knowledge can be transferred from the research lab bench in to innovative technologies able to benefit society.”

Sam’s PhD research focuses on the sensing aspect of the Proteus fibre by developing Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS)-based nano sensors; when attached to the tip of the fibre allow users to perform quantitative analyses of molecules and conditions present in blood and tissue, particularly redox potential and glucose concentration.
