Professor Ann Millar


Professor Ann Millar is Emeritus Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Bristol University. Professor Millar has clinical interests in diffuse parenchymal lung disease, acute lung injury and the immunocompromised lung. Her main research interests are in the mechanisms regulating the outcome of acute and chronic lung injury. She focuses upon the inflammatory process and its regulation in the lungs and also many other organs showing the wide implications for asthma, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

She has been responsible for ensuring funding is obtained for the research work of the Lung Research Group and has obtained research grants from a variety of organisations including the The Wellcome Trust, the British Lung FoundationAction Medical Research and the Sir Jules Thorne Charitable Trust.

Professor Millar has authored various papers and textbooks. She is a former Chairman of the British Association for Lung Research (BALR) and President of The British Thoracic Society (BTS).
