Science Insights

This summer, Proteus will host S5 school students as part of the Science Insights work placement scheme.

40 secondary school pupils will spend a week of their summer holidays following a varied programme of activities on four different University of Edinburgh campuses, gaining a real insight into scientific research.

“I learnt that a science degree can lead to many different places. You are not restricted in options, there are many career paths available.”

Proteus researchers will work closely with the students and provide them with hands-on experience of smartprobe analysis and spectrometry. They will be introduced to cell staining techniques, and have the chance to use our imaging platform to image the stained cells and observe their characteristics.

The students will also be taken on a tour of the Proteus labs, introduced to members of the team and given the opportunity to ask questions about our project and careers in science.

“I found it really helpful and interesting. Made me more excited to have a career in science!”
